PROCTORVILLE — Things went from bad to worse for the Fairland Dragons.

Austin Forbes threw a three-hitter and the Greenup County Musketeers took advantage of five Fairland errors to beat the Dragons 6-3 on Tuesday in a six-inning game due to darkness.

Alex Thackston took the loss despite giving up just five hits, striking out 12 and walked two. Only one run was earned.

“That was our worst game. We were our own worst enemy. We just weren’t ready to play,” said Fairland coach Bryan Ward. “We’re still not hitting. We’re not making hard contact.”

Greenup took a 3-0 lead in the third inning. Casey Stiltner reached on an error, Jacob Cook put down a sacrifice and Korey Morris had an RBI single. Jared Moore attempted a sacrifice bunt that was thrown away at first base allowing two runs to score.

The Musketeers got two runs in the top of fifth to make it 5-0.

Morris double and Moore singled for the first run. Moore moved up on a passed ball and a stolen base and scored on Brian Boyle’s squeeze bunt.

Fairland (9-4) got all three of its runs and hits in the bottom of the inning.

Blaine Fuller reached on a two-out error, stole second and scored on Eric Riley’s base hit. Corey Barker doubled in a run, Thackston walked and Kyle Raines singled in the final run.

Greenup (11-8) added an insurance run in the sixth on a hit batsman, a stolen base and an error.

Fairland visits South Point on Wednesday.
