CHESAPEAKE — Beginning Monday and continuing through Friday Ohio American Water employees will open area fire hydrants to flush water mains.

Flushing will be done in the Chesapeake and East Chesapeake areas on Monday. Chesapeake, Big Branch, West Chesapeake, and the Sybene areas will be flushed on Tuesday. Buffalo Creek, Charley Creek, Sybene, and Sandusky Road areas will be flushed on Wednesday.

The Burlington area and the rest of the system to the west will be flushed on Thursday and Friday.

The flushing will occur between the hours of 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. each night.

“Flushing is an important part of our system’s regular maintenance program. It ensures hydrants and valves are working properly and helps prevent sediment buildup,” said Ron Dials, superintendent for the area. “Ohio American Water consistently meets or exceeds all drinking water standards and maintaining the distribution system helps preserve that quality and reliability.”

No interruptions in water service will occur as a result of the flushing.

Customers may notice a drop in water pressure, temporary water discoloration or small particles of calcium or iron which dislodge in the process. These conditions pose no health concern but they can stain laundry. If possible, customers should avoid doing laundry while the flushing is taking place nearby. If tap water is discolored, allow it to run until clear.

This is also a good time for customers to check and flush their home water system.
