COAL GROVE — Instead of the Hornets, it was the Rock Hill bats that were stinging.

The Rock Hill Redwomen had 12 hits including seven for extra bases in a 15-3 five-inning win over the Coal Grove Lady Hornets on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We hit the ball well and we played good defense. It was a good win,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Jane Harper.

Kaelynn Ellis and Morgan Damron led the hit parade. Ellis was 4-4 with a double and a home run while Damron was 4-5 with two doubles. Lindy Simpson was 2-3 with a double.

Sami Nixon got the win with a four-hitter. She struck out 12 of the 15 outs and did not walk a batter.

Deanna Bentley was 2-3 with a home run and Kaitlynn Murphy 2-3 for Coal Grove.

Coal Grove went up 2-0 in the first inning when Murphy and Bentley singled and scored on a couple of errors.

Rock Hill (13-5, 7-1) came back with five runs in the second.

Brooke Hanshaw and Kenzi Martin reached on errors and Ellis singled to load the bases. Simpson walked for a run and Brooke Eastham hit a sacrifice fly. Damron singled two runs and scored on a wild pitch.

The lead went to 10-2 in the top of the third.

Morgan Schug doubled and Ellis singled for a run. Simpson singled, Eastham was hit by a pitch and Damron singled in two runs. Harper tripled to drive in a pair.

Bentley homered in the bottom of the inning and it was 10-3.

Martin walked and Ellis homered to start the fourth and Simpson and Damron doubled to make it 13-3.

Two runs scored in the fifth on a walk to Schug, a wild pitch and RBI doubles by Ellis and Damron.

Rock Hill hosts Fairland on Wedneday in a battle for first place in the OVC.
