HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Huntington police say a Marshall football player punched an officer in the face at a bar at closing time.

Media outlets report sophomore defensive back Phillip Warren punched the officer as police were escorting patrons out of The Thirsty Whale early Sunday.

Capt. Alan Rohrig says officers were at the club to encourage customers who had gathered outside to leave.

Warren and three other players were arrested. A Western Regional Jail officer says they posted bond and were released Sunday night.

Warren is charged with battery on police, disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer. Also charged with misdemeanors were running back Martin Ward, cornerback Corie Wilson and linebacker Stefone Grace.

Coach Doc Holliday says he’s gathering facts in the case and plans to handle the matter appropriately.
