Brown pitches shutout as Lady Pointers blank Chesy

SOUTH POINT — Kaitlyn Brown must like goose eggs.

Brown did not allow a run or a walk as she pitched a five-hit shutout and the South Point Lady Pointers beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 11-5 in five innings on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Brown struck out seven in getting the win.

Andi Kleinman went 3-3 with a run batted in to lead a nine-hit attack. Abbey Winkler and Rachel Murnahan were 2-2 and Haley Powell 2-3.

South Point jumped in front 2-0 in the first inning.

Winkler singled, stole second and scored on a throwing error. Murnahan and came home on a hit by Powell.

The lead went to 4-0 in the third when Winkler singled, Kleinman had an RBI double and Murnahan a run-scoring single.

The Lady Pointers put the game away with a seven-run outburst in the fourth when they sent 11 batters to the plate.

Morgan Wells reached on a dropped third strike, Bonnie Hileman and Aerial Boggs walked and Wells scored on a passed ball. Hileman was thrown out at home as Winkler reached on a fielder’s choice.

Brianna Whaley reached on an error as two runs scored, Kleinman singled, Murnahan walked and Powell singled home Murnahan and pinch-runner Tori Starr.

Brown reached on an error as the final run scored.

Sarah Rice went 2-3 to lead Chesapeake.
