SOUTH POINT — Steve Easterling may want to audition for a role in Rescue 911 if the show is ever revived.

For the second straight game Easterling came on to register a save as the Ironton Fighting Tigers beat the South Point Pointers 4-3 on Tuesday.

“Lawless pitched pretty well and then he got in a little trouble in the seventh. Steve came in and did a nice job shutting them down,” said Ironton coach Tobey Schreck.

Lawless struck out five, walked one, gave up six hits and two of the three runs were earned. Easterling struck out three of the four batters he faced.

South Point’s Larry Brandon pitched a seven-hitter. He struck out six, walked three and three runs were earned.

Ironton got the scoring underway in the first inning when Easterling singled and Lawless doubled.

The Fighting Tigers added two more runs in the fourth inning.

Cody Roberts drew a one-out walked, stole second and scored on Brandon Leach’s double. Leach moved up on an error and scored on a wild pitch.

The lead went to 4-0 in the top of the sixth when Roberts was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Nick Culbertson’s base hit.

The Pointers got two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Jesse Lien singled and Austin Jeffreys reached on an error for a run. Brandon Boggs doubled with one out and scored on Brandon’s single.

In the seventh, Trey Kearns was safe on an error to start the inning. Easterling came on and struck out the next two batters before Lien reached on an error and Kearns scored during a rundown and it was 4-3.

But Easterling struck out the next batter to end the game.

Offensively, Easterling went 2-4 for Ironton while Boggs and Brandon each went 2-3 for the Pointers.

Ironton visits Wheelersburg on Thursday.
