Redmen win title outright

PEDRO — It was Lucky 13.

The Rock Hill Redmen not only won the 13th straight game but the Ohio Valley Conference outright title on Wednesday with a 4-2 win over the Fairland Dragons.

Rock Hill is now 14-3 overall and 9-0 in the OVC with only a home game Friday against South Point. Fairland is 11-6 and 6-3 in the league.

“We’re just trying to stay on a roll. We’re gelling as a team,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

Drew Kidd got the win as he gave up six hits, struck out nine and walked one.

“Drew threw well when he kept the ball down,” said Litteral.

Fairland took a 1-0 lead in the first when Blaine Fuller singled, moved up on a ground out and Kyle Raines singled.

The Redmen took the lead with two runs in the second.

Austin Kidd walked, Jared Bruce and Evan Morris singled to load the bases and Drew Kidd had a two-run single.

The lead went to 3-1 in the third when Matt Jenkins doubled, Ryan Depriest had a sacrifice bunt and Jack Goodwin hit a sacrifice fly.

Each team scored a run in the sixth.

Josh Ross was hit by a pitch, Matt Aliff had a sacrifice and Alec Warner tripled for the Dragons.

Austin Kidd singled, courtesy runner Aaron Dalton stole second and Morris doubled for the Redmen.

Morris went 3-4 for the Redmen and Warner 3-3 for Fairland.
