PROCTORVILLE — The car of a Proctorville man missing since April 28 has been located in Huntington, W.Va.

Alan Lawson, 41, was reported missing by his wife, Paula, Monday to the sheriff’s office. He was last seen by her April 28 around 11 a.m. when he left their home to check on rental property he owns in Ironton.

“(May 3) the gentleman’s vehicle was found in the 1900 block of James River Road in Huntington,” Sheriff Jeff Lawless said. “It was on a parking lot of an old ball field like our Moulten’s Field.”

James River Road is off Spring Valley Drive in the Westmoreland section of Huntington, across the Ohio River from Burlington.

The car was located by Huntington Police at around 6 p.m. and searched by Lawrence County Sheriff’s detectives on Friday morning.

“There is nothing that we can disclose,” Lawless said. “There is nothing of real significance that would indicate there is foul play. There was no blood, no sign of a struggle.”

Lawless has asked for the Huntington Police to take a canine unit into the area for a search.

“We can’t find a rea son for Mr. Lawson to have been in that particular area,” Lawless said. “We are conducting interviews with family, friends and acquaintances.”

On Thursday the sheriff’s office was notified that a body had been recovered from the Ohio River near Cincinnati.

“We received a phone call from someone who had seen that on the Internet,” the sheriff said. “We have reached out to (authorities in Cincinnati.) We haven’t heard anything back. What we see is if they haven’t contacted us, most of the time they have moved on. If they had anything to do with us, they would contact us.”

The last known contact with Lawson was by a woman who had telephoned him about a car she was interested in. The two were to meet at the parking lot of South Point Food Fair. Lawson never showed up for the appointment.

Lawson was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and grayish white tennis shoes.
