An Ironton man who pleaded guilty last week to severely beating another man learned his fate Wednesday — but not before he heard the victim speak about his ordeal.

Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced Scott A. Jenkins, 30, of 603 N. Fifth St., to 15 months in prison for aggravated assault. He was charged in connection with the attack on Douglas Markin, 65, of Raceland Ky.

Markin was in court Wednesday and told Bowling about the severity of the assault.

“I got steel in my face, I got no teeth. I lost 30 pounds and I can’t gain it back because of the infections in my face,” Markin said.

“I am aware of the damage done to you,” Bowling told Markin.

Jenkins was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Police were called to an apartment at 119 N. Fourth St. on Feb. 20 in regards to an incident that had become violent. The apartment was the home of a mutual friend of both Markin and Jenkins. Markin was first taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky., and was later transferred to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. Police said Markin sustained head trauma in the attack.

Also Wednesday, Daniel D. Preston Jr., 20, of 1063 Collins Lane, Ashland, Ky., pleaded guilty to one count of importuning.

Bowling sentenced Preston to four years community control sanctions under intensive supervised probation. He must now register as a sex offender for the next 15 years and serve 200 hours of community service.

Bowling further ordered Preston to refrain from having any contact with the 13-year-old victim.

Preston was arrested in late February when he came to Ironton to have sex with a 13-year-old girl he met on the Internet. He was unable to locate her house and asked an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper for assistance.

The trooper thought something was amiss and took Preston to the Ironton Police Department for questioning. It was then Preston admitted to his plan and that he knew the girl was underage.
