MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia starting safeties Darwin Cook and Terence Garvin face misdemeanor shoplifting charges stemming from the alleged theft of snacks from a Morgantown convenience store.

A criminal complaint says a Monongalia County sheriff’s deputy arrested Cook and Garvin on Tuesday.

A store manager says two men entered the store and took several items without paying for them, including bottled drinks, pretzels and other snacks. The theft occurred last month.

West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen tells The Dominion Post (www.dominionpost.com) he’s aware of the incident and will take appropriate action.

Cook gained national notoriety for leaping on the Orange Bowl mascot after returning a fumble 99 yards for a touchdown in West Virginia’s 70-33 win over Clemson.

Both players are free on bond. It wasn’t immediately known whether they had attorneys.
