St. Joseph seeking new

soccer coach, A.D.

Ironton St. Joseph High School s now accepting applications for the positions of high school head soccer coach and high school athletic director.

Qualified individuals who are interested may obtain an application in the high school principal’s office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Application deadline is Wednesday, May 30.

 

 

Ironton boys’ basketball

camp planned June 4-7

The Ironton Fighting Tigers’ basketball camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 4-7 at the Sports Center for boys entering grades 3-9.

Camp fee is $20 and checks should be made payable to the Tiger Clan. Registration forms are available at all the city schools and Bob Linn Sporting Goods.

College and high school guest speakers will be in attendance.

Each camper receives a T-shirt and a cold beverage each day. The camp stresses all types of fundamentals as well as academics and the mental aspects of the game. Games will be played on a daily basis and awards will be presented at the end of the camp.

camp set June 11-14

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ basketball camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 11-14 at the Sports Center for girls entering grades 3-9.

camp set for June 4-7

The Fairland Lady Dragons youth basketball camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 4-7 at the high school gymnasium.

The camp is open to girls entering grades 1-8 next fall. Fee is $35 or $60 for two players in the same household. All campers receive a camp T-shirt.

Lady Panthers youth

basketball camp planned

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers’ girls’ basketball camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 5-6 at Chesapeake Elementary.

The camp is open to any girls in the tri-state in grades Pre-K to 8th grade. Fee is $20.

Carpenter’s collection

on display June 2 at FBC

John Carpenter ­ — who owns the world’s largest private sports memorabilia collector — will dispaly his exclusive baseball collection from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at First Baptist Church, 5th and Vernon Streets, in Ironton.

Admission is $3 for adults and children 18 and under are free.

The display will include a photo collection of Babe Ruth that have never been seen before.

Carpenter is featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not and Ripley’s cartoon series that have been viewed by more than 80 million people in 42 countries and printed in 200 newspapers worldwide.

His collection has been compared to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.

 

 

High School football

combine set for June 9

The second annual Tri-State Rehab high school football combine will be held Saturday, June 9, at Ironton High School.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and players will be tested in the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, flexibility test, 3-cone drill and the L-drill. Each player’s individual results will be recorded and distributed to colleges of their choice.

The combine is a simulation to those conducted by the NFL for rookies to test their performance levels prior to the draft. All drills are to test speed, strength, agility and flexibility.

Cost is $25 per athlete if registered by Wednesday, May 23. Late registration fee is $50 by Wednesday, May 30. Checks can be made payable to Tri-State Rehab Services and mailed to the firm at 711 South 3rd Street, Ironton, OH 4638.
