Highlands announces interim director

ASHLAND, Ky. —Carol Rice Allen of Bellefonte has accepted the interim position as Director of Highlands Museum and Discovery Center in Ashland.
She follows Leigh Ann Heineman as director who has worked for the past three years.
The board of trustees and the Staff thank Heineman for her leadership and devotion to the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center. She will be assuming the position of vice president of Harold D. Miller Insurance Agency, Inc., with offices in Greenup and Ashland, KY.
Carol is a retired educator having taught in the Catlettsburg Independent and Russell Independent systems for 27 years.
After retirement, she taught consumer science at Marshall University and has volunteered in many area organizations including PWA, OLBH Auxiliary Board, Heritage, Arts, Science and Tourism Board and Greenup County Tourism and Convention Commission.
She has served at many levels in her professional career including state president of Kentucky Association of Home Economics Teachers and president of Greenup County Retired Teachers. She served on a state board under Gov. John Y. Brown.
She presently is employed with The Gallaher Group as she works in marketing and sales for Bridges magazine.
She is the wife of long time educator, the late Sen. Nelson R. Allen and the mother of Bobby Allen, Greenup County Tourism Director.
Allen is excited to be involved with the museum as it is such a wonderful educational and cultural experience for the young and the old to enjoy. Please come visit the museum and bring a child for a day of adventure and learning.
