Lake Vesuvius to open Saturday

ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP — Just in time for Memorial Day Weekend. The recreation staff at the Wayne National Forest Ironton Ranger District has completed all road slip repair projects and prepared the Big Bend Beach swimming area to open for visitors at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Big Bend will be open until Labor Day each day from sunrise to sunset. A $3 amenity fee is required to visit the site.

The beach has restroom facilities, drinking water and parking spaces.

Music duo signs recording contract

DESTIN, Fla. — The music group with ties to this area has signed a recording deal.

Christian & James, which hails from Ironton, have signed a contract with Joe Moore Enterprises of Fort Walton Beach, Fla. The duo comprised of James Waldo and Wally Christian.

They recently completed the recording of their second CD, titled ,“Dirt Roads to Sandy Beaches” which was scheduled to be released this month.

Ten of the songwriters’ original tunes and two songs written by Shel Silverstein and recorded by Bobby Bare were on an earlier CD. A CD release party is being planned for the Ironton area as well as Fort Walton Beach.

Wally and James will play several concerts this weekend in the Ironton area. Concerts are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. today at The End Zone and The Laid Back River ranch at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.
