Michael Hailey

Michael Hailey passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, at his residence in Pedro. He was 61. Michael was born May 12, 1950, in Ironton, to Richard and June Hailey. He was a 1968 graduate of Ironton High School, where he lettered in wrestling and was a member of the Ironton High School Million Dollar Marching Band. During high school “Mike,” as his family and friends affectionately called him, was an amateur archaeologist who enjoyed searching the hills and plowed farm fields of southern Ohio for Native American artifacts.

Mike attended Marshall University and received his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State University of Louisiana. Mike received his master’s degree from University of Cincinnati. Mike was fluent in the German and Spanish languages and writing.

Mike’s paternal grandmother, Verna Hailey, and his paternal great-aunt, Virginia “Callie” Fields, were great influences in his life. For the past 15 years, Mike faithfully housed and cared for homeless dog and cats. He was a member of the Lawrence County Humane Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents, June and Richard Hailey, and a brother, Timothy Hailey.

He is survived by his sister, Kathryn Hunley of Ventura, Calif.; and his two brothers, John Hailey of Arlington, Texas and Paul “Jareth” Hailey of Cincinnati. Relatives and friends are invited to Michael Hailey’s memorial service 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, 304 S. Fifth St., Ironton. Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home.

 

Donald Lowe

Donald T. “Terry” Lowe, 62, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at his residence. The Portsmouth native was born June 10, 1950, the son of the late Donald Lee Lowe and Betty Smith Moore. He is survived by his wife Connie Stewart Lowe whom he married Dec. 30, 1971.

Terry was a 1968 graduate of Ironton High School and attended Slabfork United Methodist Church. He retired in 2006 after 27 years as a Pipefitter/ Welder for the Ashland Oil/ Marathon Oil Company and he was formerly employed at Allied Chemical. Terry was a member of the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of F. and A.M. of Ohio, Lawrence Lodge # 0198 – past Master. Member Grand Chapter Royal Arch Mason’s of Ohio, Legrange Chapter 68. Ironton Commandrey # 45 Knights Templar. He also served on the Memorial Day Parade Committee and was a Sunday school superintendent for the Slabfork United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by son, Donald T. “Terry” Lowe II of Felicity; son and daughter-in-law, Floyd B. “Brad” and Erin Helms Lowe of Ironton; four grandchildren, Bailey, Reagan and Jordan Lowe of Felicity and Connor Lowe of Ironton; stepfather, Benjamin Moore of Ironton; sister, Joany Lawless of South Point; brother, Gary Lowe of Ironton; sister, Deborah Blair of Ironton; and brother, Ben Moore of Ironton.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Max Donahue officiating. Burial will follow in Slabfork Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Vince Sheridan, Steve Hill, Steve Vrabel, Norman Ozark, James Norris, Dick Payne and Duke Sheridan. Delmar Jenkins

Delmar “Buddy” Daniel Jenkins Jr. 53, of Ironton, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012, at St Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. The Lawrence County native was born Aug. 31, 1958, the son of the late Delmar Daniel Jenkins and Phyllis Jo Lykins Jenkins.

Buddy attended Rock Hill Schools and enjoyed fishing and riding four wheelers. He was a former Millwright and of the Pentecostal faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his companion, Trenda Triplett; sister, Brenda Miller; paternal grandparents, Charles and Goldie Jenkins; and maternal grandparents, Woodrow and Nellie Lykins.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Buddy Allen and Savannah Jenkins of Ironton; son, Matt Jenkins of Ironton; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Cecil McClellan of Ironton; sister, Margie Cooper of Ironton; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Andrea Jenkins of Ironton; brother, Tony Jenkins of Ironton; three grandchildren, Gage, Jayden and Tucker Jenkins, all of Ironton; stepson, Steven Triplett of Ironton; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Shields officiating. Burial will follow in Hanging Rock Cemetery. Eddie Smith

Eddie Ray Smith, 52, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He was the husband of Brenda Blankenship Smith, who survives. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Evans Funeral Home by Pastor Phil Fannin. Burial will be in Caroline Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
