National Nursing Home Week was celebrated with great fanfare and enthusiasm at River’s Bend Health Care in South Point. We kicked off with a Mother’s Day Tea on Sunday, May 13, then enjoyed theme dress up days and special entertainment the rest of the week:
• Monday, May 14 – Hat Day and entertainment by the Tri-State Dulcimer Society
• Tuesday, May 15 – Western Day, a reception provided by Community Hospice of Ashland, and a show by the Porter Creek Cloggers
• Wednesday, May 16 – Red, White and Blue Day and a jazz and soft rock performance by the Huntington Federal Bank Band
• Thursday, May 17 – a cookout for staff, residents and family members on the back patio, entertainment by the Underwood Center Senior Singers and health screenings provided by the King’s Daughters Mobile Health Unit
• Friday, May 18 – Luau Day and a southern rock, blues and country gospel show by the Jobe Family
• Saturday, May 19 – Bingo Bash
We wish to thank all the groups who made Nursing Home Week extra special. We also acknowledge the Kelley’s Bridge Irish Band from Ironton that on April 26 filled the halls with jigs, reels and waltzes at our Spring Party, and the Tri-State Saints Alive Christian Choir that performed a rousing and uplifting show the day after Memorial Day, on Tuesday, May 29.
