Ironton youth cheerleader

The Ironton Recreation Department will conduct cheerleader registration for the Bills and Eagles youth football teams from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 14, in the Ironton City Center.

Registration is open to girls in grades 2 through 6. Fee is $30.

 

 

 

Volleyball officiating

class being offered

Anyone interested in becoming a high school or middle school volleyball official in the state of Ohio must take an Ohio High School Athletic Association sponsored class.

The OHSAA has changed its registrationi procedure to take a class and the test.

scramble June 30

The Knights of Columbus annual golf scramble will be held on Saturday, June 30, at Diamond Links in Rush, Ky.

Shotgun start is 8:30 a.m. Food and drinks are provided. Entry fee is $50 per person.

Rio Grande volleyball

The University of Rio Grande volleyball team will host its second annual “Raining Talent” high school tournament on Saturday, June 30, in the Lynn Center on the campus.

Team entry fee is $250 (jayvee and/or varsity). Entry deadline is Friday.

The University of Rio Grande volleyball team will host its volleyball skills camp Sunday-Tuesday, July 1-3, at the school for grades 6-12.

Dragons’ annual 5K Run

scheduled for June 30

The second annual 5K “Run for the Dragons” race will be held at Jim Mayo Stadium beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 30.

Online registration is on tristateracer.com and additional race day registration will be at 7:30 a.m.

Fee is $15 before June 15 and $20 the day of the race. The first 100 to register will receive a T-shirt. To guarantee size, please pre-register.

Awards will be given to top male and female finishers and the top three runners in seven age groups.

2nd Annual Flyer 5K Run

scheduled for Aug. 25

The second annual Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and Ironton Catholic Schools’ Flyer 5K race will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at St. Joseph High School.

Fee is $15 before Aug. 19 and $20 after and on race day. Registration on race day is from 7-7:45 a.m. Race begins at 8.

There are 15 age divisions for males and females. Top three finishers in each division and overall will be given awards. Moisture wicking T-shirts guaranteed to first 300 runners.

Ironton youth soccer

league sets registration

The Ironton Area Youth Soccer Association will conduct registrations for the fall season from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays, June 30 and July 7, at Bob Linn Sporting Goods at 212 N. 2nd Street in Ironton.

The league is for youths ages 4 to 12 with birthdays between Aug. 1, 2000, to July 31, 2008. Fee is $20 per youth and $15 for each additional sibling. There will be a $5 late fee assessed per player after July 7.

Teams will be in under 6 and two under 12 for boys and girls.

 

Lady Herd softball

camps set for July

Marshall Lady Thundering softball will offer four different camps in July to be held at Dot Hicks Field.

Player scrimmage camp: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 9, 16 and 23. Open to grades 9-12. One session is $50, two sessions $75 and three sessions $125. There are discounts to teams of 10 or more players.

Pitching camp: 5:30-7:30 p.m. July 11, 18 and 25. Open to all ages. Each session is $30, all sessions $75.

Hitting camp: 5:30-7:30 p.m. July 17, 24 and 31. Open to all ages. Each session is $30 and all three $75.

All-Skills camp: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 17-18. Campers grouped based on age and skill. Lunch and one-hour swim inside the Marshall Recreation Center included. Open to all ages. Costs $75 for defense (July 17), $75 for offense (July 18), $125 both days.

The camp will be conducted by Herd head coach Shonda Stanton, assistant coaches Amanda Williams and Chelsey Barclay, and current players.

I-Town Pre-National

Showcase July 6-8

The I-Town Pre-National Showcase basketball tournament will be held July 6-8 at Ironton High School.

The tournament has four divisions for boys and girls: third grade, fourth grade, fifth grade and sixth grade. Teams are guaranteed three games minimum with pool play on Friday and Saturday and a single elimination tournament on Sunday.

Entry fee is $200. Awards will be given to first and second place teams along with an all-tournament team and MVP awards.

Admission is $5 per entry or a complete tournament pass for $20.

Freedom Fest 5K run

July 4 in Jackson

The 16th annual Jackson County Freedom Fest 5K Run And Walk will be held on Wednesday, July 4 and will be run through the business district and western residential section of Jackson.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. at Manpower Park on East Main Street, across from the Jackson Square Shopping Center and Krogers, 530 E. Main Street.

Entry fee is $15 and proceeds will go toward the sponsoring of community events by the Jackson Area Chamber Of Commerce.

All participating runners will receive newly-designed Sports Festival T-shirts. The race will be timed by TriStateRacer.com.

Plaques will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers and medals will be given to the top three finishers in all age divisions, outside of those winning plaques, in both the male and female categories.

No pre-registration is required and registration may be made the day of the race.

There will also be a one-mile walk starting simultaneously with the 5K Run. Those wishing to participate in the walk, which has no registration fee, may purchase a T-shirt for $10.

Kiwanis Juniors plan

golf tourney July 19

The Kiwanis Juniors at Cliffside Golf Club in Gallipolis will hold a juniors tournament beginning at 1 p.m. on July 19. Registration begins at noon.

The tournament is open to ages 9-18. Fee is $20 for ages 9-12 and $30 for 13-15 and 16-18. Age 9-10 and 11-12 will play nine holes while 13-15 and 16-18 play 18 holes.

Individual awards will be given to the top three places in each division.

Cart/meal passes will be available to spectators for $15.
