Warriors football team remains unbeaten in NFFL

PORTSMOUTH — Need a football fix?
The Kentucky Warriors local semi-pro team is rolling along unbeaten with several local players helping by playing key roles for the Northern Frontier Football League team.
Ty Allen and Kenny Jenkins of Ironton, Jon Estes, Tevin Smith and Aaron Scott of South Point, JoJo Parker and David Mallory of Portsmouth, Dustin Winters of Gallipolis, Jermaine Payton of Huntington (W.Va.), Nate Fannin of Wheelersburg, Steve Lee and Angel Gurule of Ashland (Ky.) and Andrew Osburn of Minford are former area high school graduates.
Former Ironton running back and defensive back Jamie Rice serves as an assistant coach. The head coach is Dan Polcyn.
The league is comprised of teams from Lancaster, Cincinnati, Columbus, Mansfield, Lima, Dayton and Akron.
The Warriors have been voted the top defense in the NFFL. Last year’s league MVP Payton and Parker lead the offense.
The Warrior are 8-0 after beating the Cincinnati Falcons last Saturday. After a bye this week, they visit the Tri-State Sharks on Saturday and then play back-to-back home games Aug. 4 against the Clermont Grizzlies and Aug. 11 against the Ohio Ducks.
Home games are played at Portsmouth’s Spartan Stadium. All games start at 7 p.m. Admission is $10, children 12 and under free, and veterans or active duty $5 with military ID.
