The wife of the former treasurer of the Ironton National Little League admitted to stealing more than $22,000 from the organization Friday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Sondra K. Gayhart, 48, of 2427 S. Seventh St., pleaded guilty to amended charges through her attorney, Luke Styer.

Originally charged with 45 counts of theft and forgery, Gayhart pleaded guilty to only five counts, four of which were fifth-degree thefts and one count of fifth-degree forgery.

Assistant Prosecutor Brigham Anderson said the remaining 40 counts were dismissed in exchange for her guilty plea.

Judge Charles Cooper scheduled sentencing for Aug. 29 following a pre-sentencing investigation. Cooper continued Gayhart’s bond.

Anderson said the state would recommend Gayhart be sentenced to three years in prison and pay restitution to the Little League in the amount of $22,689.51.

An investigation that began last November led to the charges against Gayhart, who wrote and cashed checks from the Little League account between January 2010 and December 2011. Amounts cashed from the checks ranged from as little as a few hundred dollars to $2,500.
