Cubs top Reds in nightcap

CINCINNATI (AP) — Brett Jackson hit his first career home run to help Brooks Raley earn his first major league win, leading the Chicago Cubs to a 9-7 victory over the Cincinnati Reds and a split of their day-night doubleheader on Saturday.

The Reds won the opener 5-3 behind Johnny Cueto’s 16th win.

Starlin Castro had three hits and two RBIs as the Cubs rebounded after losing the first two in the four-game weekend series. David DeJesus added his fifth home run of the season in the ninth.

Raley (1-2) gave up four runs, three earned, and five hits in 5 1-3 innings.

Ryan Ludwick belted two home rusn and drove in three runs for the Reds. The home runs were Nos. 24 and 25 for Ludwick who had a multiple home run game for the fourth time this season.

Todd Redmond (0-1) took the loss in his major league starting debut.

Redmond went 3.1 innings allowing seven this, four runs — all earned — with two strikeouts and five walks.

Cincinnati made it a one-run game in the eighth after Jay Bruce led off with a single and scored on pinch-hitter Miguel Cairo’s triple to the right-field corner against Cubs reliever Shawn Camp.
