PROCTORVILLE — A Fairland mother was arrested today after she allegedly assaulted both a bus driver and a child on a school bus.

Jamie L. Qualls, 30, County Road 12, was charged with two counts felonious assault, one a felony and one of misdemeanor, and taken to the Lawrence County Jail but Sheriff Jeff Lawless said Qualls could face other charges in connection with this incident.

Lawless said at approximately 7 a.m. today, school bus 46 was making its rounds and had stopped to pick up Qualls’ children when Qualls reportedly got on the bus and began to quarrel with the bus driver.

“Mrs. Qualls entered the bus door and began to curse the bus driver claiming that he was about to leave her children and drive away,” Lawless said in his prepared statement. “The bus driver tried to explain that he was not going to leave them but Mrs. Qualls continued to yell profane language at the driver. The driver advised her to leave the school bus at which point Mrs. Qualls struck the driver twice in the face with her hands.”

When the driver radioed for help, Qualls grabbed the microphone out of his hand and struck him again.

According to Lawless, Qualls continued to rage and curse and the bus driver again ordered her from the bus. Qualls then turned her attention to a 10- year- old male student who was seated near the entrance of the bus and began to curse him. She then struck this child in the face with her open hand. The bus driver was then able to get Mrs. Qualls from the bus, he left the scene and radioed for help.

“I reviewed the film from the bus and was shocked at Mrs. Qualls actions,” Lawless said.

Qualls has been incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail on one count of Felonious assault on the bus driver (F-S) and one count of assault on the minor (M-11). This situation is still under investigation and further charges will be considered when we meet with the Prosecutors Office.
