LUCASVILLE — Playing against the dark cloud, Chesapeake coach Andy Clark managed to see a silver lining.

The Panthers found themselves up against their fourth straight unbeaten team on Friday and they suffered a 46-13 loss. But Chesapeake did manage 221 total yards — mostly against Valley’s first unit.

“Our kids never quit. We did some positive things, but we made too many mistakes and you can’t do that against a good team and win,” said Clark.

“We did move the ball, but we dropped some passes and had some costly penalties. But Valley is a very solid team. Their line played well and they have some nice big backs.”

Will Howard led Valley (4-0) with 189 total yards of offense. He ran 11 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns and completed 7 of 11 passes for 96 yards and two scores.

The Indians had 425 total yards with 329 coming on the ground. Nate Arnett had 61 yards on eight carries with two scores while Matt Rollins ran twice for 81 yards.

The Panthers (1-3) got 221 yards on the ground with Jacob Collins gaining 51 yards on 14 carries. Quarterback Caleb Lindsey ran 14 times for 37 yards and completed 8 of 15 passes for 88 yards and a touchdown.

Arnett scored on a 22-yard run four minutes in to the game to give Valley a 7-0 lead.

Chesapeake tied the game with a 10-yard scoring strike from Lindsey to Brandon Clagg with 9:38 left in the quarter.

But Howard hit Arnett with a 44-yard scoring pass on a third down and 30 play and it was 14-7.

Howard ran 11 yards for a score just before the half to make it 20-7.

Howard ran 28 yards for his second TD to begin the second half and it was 26-7.

The Indians converted another third down play on their next series as Howard hit Jordan West with a 17-yard scoring pass and it was 33-7.

Valley made it 40-7 on an 8-yard pass from Howard at the end of the third quarter, but the Panthers answered with Javon Thompson’s 8-yard scoring run.
