Valley rushes by Pointers, 61-19

SOUTH POINT — Lucasville Valley had their running shoes on and amassed 371 yards on the ground en route to a 61-19 win over the South Point Pointers.

The Indians (5-0) got out to a quick 7-0 lead when Will Howard capped a 10-play, 68-yard drive with a 6-yard run on the first possession of the game.

After a South Point punt, Valley took the quick route to the end zone when Howard found Nate Arnett on the first play of the series for a 32-yard touchdown pass. Ethan Clark Holbrook added the extra point to make it 14-0.

Lucasville Valley would add another touchdown in the first quarter when Brice Jordan found the end zone from 20 yards out. Holbrook added the extra point to give the Indians a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.

South Point (0-5) would get on the board early in the second quarter when James Leonard capped a five-play drive with a one-yard touchdown run. The extra point was no good and the score was 21-6. The touchdown was set up by a 71-yard kickoff return by Josh Browning.

The Indians would increase the lead to 33-6 at the half on a touchdown pass from Howard to Holbrook from 7 yards out, and a Howard 14-yard run.

After a South Point punt to open the second half, Valley increased their lead to 40-6 on a 3-yard run from Nate Arnett. On the ensuing kickoff, a South Point fumble was recovered by the Indians at the Pointers’ 29. Five plays later, Valley increased their lead to 47-6 on a 6-yard pass to Hayden Dunn from Zach Shope.

After a South Point punt, the Indians would mount their longest drive of the game that spilled over into the fourth quarter. Drew Wolford capped the 13-play, 86-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run to increase the lead to 54-6.

South Point would get a touchdown run from Gage Townson from nine yards out. Jesse Lien would add the extra point to make the fourth quarter score 54-13.

The Indians would add one more touchdown on a Sam Bashum 42 yard run. Holbrook added the extra point to make the score 61-13.

The Pointers would set the final score at 61-19 on a 65-yard touchdown run from Mason White. White finished the game with 94 yards on three carries.

South Point travels to Fairland next week to open Ohio Valley Conference play.
