Mary Lou Massie

Mary Lou Massie, 84, of Ocala, Fla., and Ironton, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012. The Lawrence County native was born July 4, 1928, daughter of the late Bill and Mary Ravencraft Holtzapfel. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Cosper Hart and Jairet Massie. Mary Lou graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Ironton. She was a former employee for Ashland Oil and retired from Lawrence County General Hospital. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Roger Massie; a sister, Alberta Holtzapfel Bequest; and brothers, Bill Holtzapfel and Charles (Tommy) Holtzapfel. She is survived by a son, Charles (Mary) Hart of Westervill; daughter, Pauletta (Steve) McKee of Ironton; grandson, Kristopher McKee of Ironton; granddaughter, Jessica (McKee) Henry of Ironton; great granddaughters, Madisyn Pelmonter and Tesla McKee both of Ironton; a brother, Paul Ed Holtzapfel; and special friends, Marta and Sam McCalvin of Kitts Hill. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Woodland Cemetery. There will be no public visitation and Phillips Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Cynthia Duncan

Cynthia Jo Duncan, 65, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Montezuma, Ind., native was born April 13, 1947, the daughter of the late Thelma Pinnick. Cynthia was a graduate of Western Hills High School in Cincinnati and attended Cincinnati Business College. She was a member of the Esso Grotto and a driver for Advanced Auto Parts.

She is survived by twin daughters, Tracy Romine and Terry and John Stevens, all of Coal Grove; four grandchildren, Kara Kirk, Brandon Kirk, Luke Stevens and Dakota Stevens; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Walker, Corey Stevens and Allyson Stevens; and a brother, Jim Pinnick of California. Kevin Sanders

Kevin Lee Sanders, 47, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born Feb. 6, 1965, the son of John W. and Linda S. Steele Sanders of Coal Grove. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan Wilson Sanders, whom he married April 6, 1985. Kevin was a graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. He was a manager for Wendy’s International Restaurants for 31 years and a member of Sharon Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his sons and attending their motocross races.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Jane and John Sanders; maternal grandparents, Everett and Clara Coffman; sister-in-law, Barbara White; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty and Henry Wilson. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Andrew Sanders and Aaron Sanders, both of Ironton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dee Dee and Leo Hurst of Hamilton and Gene and Karen Wilson of Ironton; a niece, Natalie Wilson of Athens; a nephew, Greg White; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles that loved him dearly and friends and coworkers.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery and visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to his sons’ education fund c/o 711 S. Fifth St., Ironton.

 

Matthew Meadows

Matthew Everett Meadows, 29, of Ironton, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The Lawrence County, Ohio native was born Aug. 16, 1983, the son of Trudy Lynn Morgan Lancaster of Ironton and the late Everett Meadows. Matthew was a 2001 graduate of Rock Hill High School and a former employee for the Fout’s Steel in Ironton.

He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents. In addition to his mother, he is survived by stepfather, Darrell Lancaster of Ironton; a son, Leland Gage Ackison of South Point; a sister, Ryan Della Morgan of Ironton; nephew, Mason Elkins of Ironton; niece, Kilynn Elkins of Ironton; and maternal grandparents, Ben and Barbara Morgan of Coal Grove.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Rehobeth Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

Dorothy Dillon, 79, of Crown City, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at River’s Bend Health Care, South Point. Hall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.

Myrtle G.  Kelley, 84 of Ironton died Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. Funeral will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Chapel.
