CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers were ahead by two, so the South Point Lady Pointers went to 3s.

The Lady Pointers hit three 3-point goals in the second quarter to take the lead and went on to beat the Lady Panthers 62-44 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.

“South Point outplayed us in all phases. They shot the ball really well and we played in foul trouble. Every time we got something started, they hit some shots. I thought Bradburn was the catalyst for them,” said Lady Panthers’ Chris Ball.

Sydnee Hall and Jordan Porter scored 6 points each in the first quarter as Chesapeake took a 16-14 lead.

But Abbey Winkler drained a pair of 3-pointers and Haley Rawlins nailed a trey to spark the offense and South Point’s defense limited Chesapeake to 5 points to take a 29-21 lead at the half.

Brett Justice scored 7 points in the third quarter as the Lady Pointers pulled away to a 44-30 lead. Atiya Spaulding had 7 of Chesapeake’s 9 points in the quarter.

Justice scored 9 points and Winkler 7 more as South Point continued its scoring binge. Hall connected on 6 of 8 free throw attempts for the Lady Panthers.

Justice had a game-high 27 points and Winkler added 14 points to lead South Point (3-3, 2-0).

Hall had 15 points and 7 rebounds to lead Chesapeake (3-1, 0-1). The foul-plagued Porter finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

Chesapeake was guilty of 18 turnovers.
