PROCTORVILLE — Mirror, mirror, on the floor, who’s the fairest of the four.

Of the four teams in the girls’ Division III regional tournament at Logan High School, two teams are almost mirror images.

The Fairland Lady Dragons and the Johnstown-Monroe Lady Johnnies both have size, depth, very few seniors in the lineup, and young, experienced starters.

The two teams will see who has the best combination of all those factors when they meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the regional semifinals.

The first game at 6:15 pits Adena against Beverly Fort Frye, two teams who rely on their seniors.

“(Johnstown) has a couple of 6-footers who are pretty good players. They’re young like us. It should be a good matchup,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

Fairland — ranked second in the final AP poll and 23-0 on the season — is led by 6-foot-4 junior Terra Stapleton and 5-7 junior guard Chandler Fulks.

Stapleton is the inside presence who has a 17.4 points per game average and 11.8 rebounds an outing.

Fulks scores 12.4 points a game and hands out assists at a 3.7 clip.

The other starters are 5-8 sophomore Kelsey Riley, 5-5 sophomore Caitlin Stone and 5-6 freshman Taylor Perry.

Off the bench Fairland uses 5-8 senior Kayla Swiger, 5-10 sophomore Mackenzie Riley5-6 senior Mariah Chaffin, and 5-9 sophomore Pieper Lewis.

The Lady Johnnies start a junior, three sophomores and a freshman.

The junior is 5-foot-4 junior point guard Marissa sheets who averages 7.3 points a game.

Natalie Carpenter is a 5-5 sophomore guard who leads the team with a 16.5 scoring average. The other guard is 5-6 sophomore Laiken Valentine whoscores at a 10.0 clip.

The center is 6-1 MacKenzie Spang with a 9.0 average and also inside is 5-11 freshman Paige Cannon who is second on the team with a 14.7 average.

Johnstown was just 6-17 last season. The Lady Johnnies are 22-4 this year and last week’s 43-41 win over Fredericktown marked the first time the team had ever reached the district finals.

Wednesday’s winners meet at 1 p.m. Saturday in the regional finals with a trip to the state tournament at stake.
