Some people collect stamps, others baseball cards. Kendall Dodgion collects gold medals.

Dodgion — an Ironton Elementary student — added to her collection at the Kentucky State Swim Meet during the March 1-3 weekend held at the Ashland YMCA.

Dodgion competed in five events and collected five gold medals in the state meet that featured nine teams and more than 460 swimmers.

Dodgion captured first place in the 100-meter individual medley, the 25-meter backstroke, the 25-meter fly, the 50-meter freestyle and the 200-meter team freestyle relay.

The five victories earned Dodgion the meet’s high point award.

Dodgion has been swimming for the Ashland Area YMCA for three years.

A third grade student in Krissy Hunt’s Ironton Elementary class, Kendall is the daughter of Penny and Steve Dodgion of Ironton.
