Someone turned 60 and they are stronger now than ever before.
That “someone” was the Ironton Invitational on Saturday and some quality performances highlighted the meet won by Wheelersburg.
“This is one of the longest running meets around. It has some great tradition and there were some nice performances today as well,” said Ironton coach Greg Cronacher.
The Pirates had 170 points followed by the Fairland Dragons with 153, the South Point Pointers with 101, the Chesapeake Panthers had 88, Ironton 55, the Rock Hill Redmen 50.5 and the Eastern Brown Eagles 31.5 points.
Cronacher was pleased with his sprinters, particularly senior Patrick Lewis and freshman Jake Long.
Long won the 100-meter dash while Lewis won the long jump, finished tied for second in the 200 and was third in the 100.
“We dropped the handoff in the 4-by-one and we were missing a few guys, but other than that we did pretty well for the first meet,” said Cronacher. “Patrick Lewis ran well and Jake Long did a nice job. It’s something to build on.”
Chesapeake’s Javon Thompson won the 200 and was second in the 100.
Fairland’s Raine Wireman won the 800 and 1600 while Logan Rowe won the 3200. Josh Sifford won the pole vault (11-feet) and was second in the 800.
The Portsmouth Invitational is Friday.
