The St. Joseph Flyers’ offense was in top shape.

With the top of the order getting 10 hits, the Flyers beat the Sciotoville East Tartans 15-8 on Thursday.

Justin Mahlmeister was 3-4 with a home run, Joseph Payton went 3-5 and Hunter Pemberton 2-4 to lead the offense.

“The top of the order is where we got most of our offensive production. We are better but we still have some things to work on,” said Flyers’ coach Brent Wirzfeld.

East scored two in the first but the Flyers (5-2) came right back with three in the bottom of the inning.

Pemberton reached on an error and stole second and third. Payton singled in the run and then stole second and scored on a hit by Mahlmeister who stole second and third and came home on a ground out.

East got a run in the second to tie the game but the Flyers came back with three more runs.

Pemberton singled, stole second and third and Payton had an RBI single. Mahlmeister then drilled a two-run homer for a 6-4 lead.

The Tartans got three runs in the third tie the game. Again St. Joseph answered and this time with an eight-run outburst in the fourth.

Mahlmeister singled, Cole Willis was safe on an error and Grant Geswein walked to load the bases. Chris Lewis was safe on an error for a run, Trey Young walked to force in a run and Eli Lewis, Pemberton and Payton all had RBI singles.

Willis hit a three-run triple to cap the rally.

The final run scored in the fifth. Geswein walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Seth Kelley was safe on an error.

Pemberton struck out 11 and walked three to get the win.
