Panthers slip past Hornets

CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Panthers slipped past the Coal Grove Hornets 3-0 on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The game was a pitcher’s duel between the Panthers’ Blake Lester and the Hornets’ Jesse Rigsby.

Lester pitched a six-hitter for the win. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Rigsby gave up five hits, struck out five and walked four.

The pitchers were the top hitters as well. Lester was 2-3 for the Panthers (7-8, 4-3). Rigsby was 2-3 for the Hornets.

The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when the Panthers scored all their runs.

With two outs, Bobby Arthur and Joe Bias walked and Mikey Walters doubled them home. Lester followed with an RBI single.

The Panthers play Huntington St. Joseph on Thursday.
