BIDWELL — Pitching and defense.

Jordan Hairston provided the pitching and the Rock Hill Redmen had just one error in an 8-1 Ohio Valley Conference win over the River Valley Raiders on Wednesday.

Hairston pitched a four-hitter while striking out five and walking five.

“Hairston pitched well and let his defense work for him. We played really well defensively,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

Rock Hill (9-2, 7-0) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first ining when Laden Delawder walked, moved up on a ground out and scored on a hit by Jonathan Joseph.

River Valley tied the game in the bottom of the inning but the Redmen took the lead for good with a run in the second.

Aaron Dalton walked, stole second, advanced on a fly out and scored on a ground out by Austin Kidd.

The lead went to 4-1 in the third.

Jonah Cox walked, was balked to second and stole third. Delawder walked and Jack Goodwin hit a sacrifice fly. Joseph singled home Delawder.

A run scored in the fifth on hits by Delawder, Goodwin and Evan Morris.

Three runs scored in the seventh. Delawder walked, Goodwin singled, Joseph had an RBI double, Hairston walked and Kidd had a two-run single.

Joseph was 3-4, Delawder 2-2 with four runs scored, Goodwin 2-3 and Kidd 1-3 with three runs batted in.
