Marcella Joseph

Sept. 3, 1925­ — April 21, 2013

Marcella M. Joseph, 87, of Coal Grove, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013, at her daughter’s residence in South Webster. The Coal Grove native was born Sept. 3, 1925, a daughter to the late Chester E. and Edith (Moberly) Hankins. Marcella was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Chester L. Joseph, who passed away July 21, 1986.

Mrs. Joseph was a 1943 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. Marcella went on to work as cashier at American Electric Power where she retired after several years of service. She was of the Baptist faith and a member at Sheridan Missionary Baptist Church in South Point. She was also an Eastern Star.

Marcella is survived by a son, George (Evelyn) Joseph of Granbury, Texas; two daughters, Karen Mullins of Chesapeake and Sharon (Michael) Ehrhart of South Webster; two brothers, Ray (Jerri) Hankins of Ironton and John (Dorothy) Hankins of Sebring, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Blaine (Hillary) Joseph of Texas, Alison (Greg) Haralson of Texas, Faith (Bryan) Turner of Chesapeake, Va., Thomas (Lisa) Cantrell of South Point, Fred (Delita) Mullins of Chesapeake, Andrea (Jason) Casey of Coal Grove, Blair Knight of Proctorville, Angela (Alfonso) Tristan of Bellevue, Neb., and Michael Ehrhart II of South Webster; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marcella is preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Joseph; a grandson, Dwayne Finley; and a granddaughter, Jana Joseph.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Woodland Cemetery with Pastor John Hankins officiating. Burial will immediately follow.

The family has asked that donations be made in Marcella’s honor to SOMC Hospice, 2201 25th St., Portsmouth, OH 45662.

Philip Staton

Jan. 20, 1950-April 17, 2013

Philip Lee Staton, 63, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday April 17, 2013, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born Jan. 20, 1950, the son of the late Wallace Staton and Mescal Kelley Staton.

Philip was a 1970 graduate of Ironton High School and attended St. Leo University. He attended First Baptist Church and Sharon Baptist Church in Ironton and was a life member of Doc Riley Chapter #51 Disabled American Veteran. Philip was a disabled United States Navy veteran. He served aboard the USS Iowa and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Achievement Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Battle “E” Ribbon, and Good Conduct Award.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his cousin Kevin Davidson.

He is survived by one sister, Linda Carter of Ironton; four stepchildren, Jasun Walker, Josh Walker, Brandon Walker and Brittany Pinkerman; one special niece, Susannah Carter of Grayson, Ky.; and five aunts, Garnet Addis, Gladys Snell, Pearl Staton, Virginia Carrico, and Phyllis Kelley, all of Ironton.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850 and with the Rev. Kevin Meyers officiating. There will be no visitation times. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

Ottis Tedrick

Ottis “Joey” Tedrick III, 45 of Greenup, Ky., died Monday, April 22, 2013, in Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods, Ky.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton with Pastor Matt Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery. Evelyn Ferris

Evelyn J. Ferris, 66, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. She was the wife of Eddie Ferris, who survives. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
