Donald Kincaid
Aug. 17, 1931 – May 19, 2013
Donald Gene “Speedy” Kincaid, 81, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the Hospice Community Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born Aug. 17, 1931, the son of the late Earl R. and Mollie Burns Kincaid. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joanne Cannon Kincaid, whom he married July 21, 1953.
Mr. Kincaid was a 1950 graduate of Ironton High School and a U.S. Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War. While in the Air Force he was considered the Ping Pong champion. He was a former remote engine operator for AK Steel, retiring in 1993 after 34 years of service with them. He was a member of the Dayton Malleable Men’s Chorus, the Steel Worker Union 1865 and the Basketball City League. He was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Autrie and Alva Cannon; two sisters-in-law, Edith Kincaid and Ramona Caldwell; brother-in-law, Richard Caldwell; niece, Joanne McPherson; and a great nephew, Robbie McPherson.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mike Dickess of Ironton; daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie and John Thompson of Russell, Ky.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sherri Kincaid of Ironton; grandchildren, Melissa (Scott) Holschuh, Amy (Eric) Barnes, Michael (Mark) Gleichauf, Amanda (Jasun) Walker, Christopher (Savannah) Dickess, Tim Kincaid, Mollie Kincaid and Emillie Kincaid all of Ironton, Zachary Fletcher of Huntington, W.Va., Brittany (BJ) Stewart of Chesapeake, Colin Thompson of Lexington, Ky. and Kristen (Tim) Dalton of Marietta, Ga.; great grandchildren, Ayden, Brooke, Erickson, Lincoln, Judah, Adi, Lexi, Eli and Ali Barnes, Chloe, Carleigh and Marlee Justice, Mason Holschuh, Max, Mick, Morgan and McKenzie Gleichauf, Ryann, Jase, and Jax Walker, Emerson and Greyson Dickess all of Ironton, Tyler, Kate and Kinley Dalton of Marietta, Ga.; step grandson, Wes (Melanie) Thompson of Ashland, Ky.; two step great grandchildren, Madelynn and Avery Thompson of Ashland, Ky.; brother, Gerald (Juanita) Kincaid of Louisville, Ky.; sister-in-law: Virginia (Bob) McPherson of Quincy, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 South Sixth Street, Ironton, with Rev. Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the V.F.W. Post 8850. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Tim Dalton, Tim Kincaid, Zachary Fletcher, Colin Thompson, Scott Holschuh, Mark Gleichauf, Jasun Walker and Chris Dickess. Honorary pallbearers will be John Thompson and Mike Dickess. Harold Spurlock, 84, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, W.Va. He is survived by his wife, Georgia Spurlock. Arrangements are incomplete at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville.
