Wanda Harmon

Wanda Jean Harmon, 60, of Coal Grove passed away June 27, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Ky., after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Wanda was born Jan. 18, 1953, in Floyd County, Ky, dear daughter of Helen Powers Clark of Franklin Furnace and the late James Robert Clark. She was a 1971 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. Wanda loved her family, gardening and was a woman of deep Christian faith.

Wanda was the beloved wife of Willard Jeffrey Harmon of Coal Grove for 40 years. She was the devoted mother of two children Ryan Harmon and his partner Devin Tordiff of Coal Grove and Amanda Jean and her husband Eric Diamond of Ironton. Wanda was the loving grandmother to two grandchildren Daly Reagan King of Ironton and Hadley Ryan Harmon of Coal Grove; and two step-grandchildren Brianna Dawn and Tatum Marie Diamond of Ironton.

In addition to her father, Wanda was preceded in death by three brothers, James Monroe Clark, Billy Joe Clark and Bobby Clark. In addition to her mother she is survived by three brothers, Terry (Liz) Clark of Ironton, Timmy (Melinda) Clark of Russell , Ky., and Jeff “Bub” Clark of Ironton; three sisters, Brenda (Jack) Hale of South Point, Cathy and Roy Slone of Franklin Furnace and Sharon and Rock Massie of Kitts Hill. Wanda’s loving sister, Sharon never left her side during her illness. In addition she also had many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with brother Rock Massie officiating. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Monday. Pallbearers will be George Rowe, Derek Rowe, Chuck Boothe, Jeffrey Haynes, Joel Harmon and Tony McKnight. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.

 

 

Colleen Mullens

Colleen Mullens, 67, of Pedro passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Concord Health and Rehabilitation in Wheelersburg. The Lawrence County native was born May 28, 1948, a daughter of the late Willard (Red) Carmon and Virgie Eaches Carmon.

Mrs. Mullens attended Rock Hill Schools and was a loving mother and housewife. She attended Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church. Colleen loved to work in her flower garden. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She always put her family before herself. Most of all she enjoyed going to church and praising her Lord. She enjoyed listening to gospel music. She was very thankful for her family and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and her husband.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie Ray Carmon and Harold “Huck” Carmon; and sister, Juanita R. Lewis.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Sgt. Joe Ray Mullens whom she married June 18, 1964; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Eric Boggs of Portsmouth; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Kay and Dennis Young of Ironton; granddaughter and fiancée, Melissa Kay Aldridge and Brian Akers of Ironton; granddaughter and fiancée, Megan Leighann Aldridge and Dakota Pressley of Portsmouth; grandson, Britton Allen Aldridge Jr. of Portsmouth; granddaughter, Tinesha Ellis of Ironton; grandson, Elijah Isaiah Young of Ironton; great-grandson, Jesse Charles Jenkins Jr.; great-granddaughter, Alyssa JoRae Akers; great-granddaughter, Brileigh Nicole Akers; sister, Myrtle Miller of Pedro; brother, Lloyd Carmon of Pedro; and several nieces and nephews.

Donna Emery

Donna Sue Emery, 64, of Ashland, Ky., passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at Hospice of Huntington. The Logan, W.Va., native was born Sept. 20, 1948, the daughter of the late Ronald and Dorothy Price Phillips. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Allen Emery, who passed away June 20, 2001.

Mrs. Emery was a graduate of Boyd County High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and of the Christian faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathy McCullough and her twin sister, Bonnie Gene Phillips.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa S. Emery and Carl Cochran of Willow Wood; a son: George M. Emery of Ashland, Ky.; three sisters, Dottie Phillips of Ashland, Ky., Lynn Kazee of South Point and Debbie and Mel Comer of Ironton; a brother, Glenn Michael and Gaye Lynn Phillips of Ashland, Ky.; two grandchildren, Lily Ann Cochran and Anabelle Cochran both of Willow Wood.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home.

John Williams

John W. “Bad Eye” Williams, 52, of Ironton, passed Thursday, June 27, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton. The Ironton native was born April 9, 1961, the son of the late Samuel Williams and Mary Jenkins Williams.

Mr. Williams attended Ironton City Schools. He enjoyed being a grandfather to his two grandchildren. He also enjoyed working on cars and tinkering with lawn mowers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Emmanuel “Lynnie” Williams.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Loretta Markins Williams of Ironton, who he married January 12, 1980; daughter and son in law, Amanda and Chris Brammer of Coal Grove; two sons, Johnny and Richard Williams both of Ironton; two grandchildren, Kylee Faith Brammer and Braddock Christopher Brammer of Ironton; brother and sister in law, Larry and Mary Williams of Ironton; brother and sister in law, Hank and Judy Williams of Ironton; brother, Samuel “Ike” Williams of Ironton; sister, Linda Pierson of Ironton; sister, Dolly Williams of Ironton; sister and brother in law, Debbie and Mike Friend of Ironton; and lots of nieces and nephews.

Carroll McDaniel

Carroll R. McDaniel, 88, of Ironton, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. He is survived by his wife, Helen M. Dufour McDaniel. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Coal Grove Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jeff Canfield officiated. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton. Barbara Sue Sites, 66, of Chesapeake, died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville.

 

Tommy Pointer

Tommy Joe Pointer, 58, of South Point, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at his residence. The Dallas native was born Aug. 30, 1954, the son of the late Coye and Geraldine (Clark) Pointer. He was also preceded in death by his Wife, Deborah (Adkins) Pointer, who passed away June 2, 2011.

Mr. Pointer was a Vietnam veteran, serving his country in the United States Air Force and was a construction worker for Grandview Buildings. He was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Pointer and Gene Pointer.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Angel and Jason Workman of South Point, Marsha and Mackie Sowards of South Point; and Fleta Gail and James Boltin of Arlington, Texas, a son and daughter-in-law, Seth and Katrina Harrison of South Point; a sister, Brenda Meadows of Ashland, Ky.; a brother, Coye and Elaine Pointer of Phoenix; 10 grandchildren, Dustin and Ryan Harrison, Joey, Christian and Caylee Workman, Samantha Lawrence, Georgia and Daisy Sowards, and Hannah and Peyton Boltin.

Johnny Lester

Johnny Ellis Lester, 47, of Huntington, W.Va. died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville. Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens in Miller.
