IRD youth football signups July 13, 20

The Ironton Youth Football League will conduct registration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, July 13 and 20, at the Ironton City Center for grades K-6.

Tryouts will be held on Monday, July 22, at the Ironton Little League baseball fields for new players who will be starting in pads.

Ironton volleyball youth camp July 1-3

The Ironton youth volleyball camp will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. July 1-3 at the Ironton Middle School.

Fee is $20 and each camper receives a T-shirt. Interested persons should contact Beth Campbell at (740) 646-9778.

 

Ashland Pro Fitness hosts July 4 workout

Ashland Pro Fitness will host its first annual July 4 Workout beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event is open to the public.

The workout — held as a tribute to the military and fallen military heroes — is free and will last no longer than 9:30.

A special T-shirt will be available for purchase.

Ironton area youth soccer sets signups

The Ironton Area Youth Soccer Association will conduct registrations for the fall season at the Ironton City Center, 301 South Third Street, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The league is for youths ages 4 to 12 with birthdays between Aug. 1, 2001, to July 31, 2009. Fee is $20 per youth and $15 for each additional sibling. There will be a $5 late fee assessed per player after July 14.

Teams will be for under age 6 (co-ed), under 8 (co-ed), and under age 10 and under 12 for boys and girls.

 

Rio Grande girls’

plan overnight camp

The University of Rio Grande women’s basketball program will conduct its overnight instructional camp July 7-10 for girls in grades 4-12.

Coaches and players will instruct campers in all phases of the game. Team and individual awards will be presented.

Fee is $265 per camper and includes lodging, meals, T-shirt, certificate of participation and use of the Lyne Center swimming pool.

A camp store is available to purchase drinks, snacks, pizza and Rio Grande apparel.

Flyer/OLBH 5K Race set for August 10

The third annual Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital/Ironton Catholic Schools Flyer 5K Race will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, starting at St. Joseph High School.

Registration fee is $15 and $20 after Aug. 3. Registration the day of the race will be 7-7:45 a.m.

Restrooms will be available at the start adn finish area. Water station is provided at the halfway point.

Medical care is also available. Food and door prizes will be provided after the race.

Tech shirts will be guaranteed to the first 200 runners. There were 353 entries last year. Walkers are welcome.

Ironton chapter will hold officiating class

The Ironton Chapter of Basketball Officials and the Ohio High School Athletic Association. will conduct an OHSAA basketball officiating class beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Chesaspeake Middle School.

Fee is $140 and must be paid when registering online at www.OHSAA.org

NIKE basketball camp set for Ironton July 8

A NIKE basketball camp conducted by basketball trainer Matt Wilson will be held for boys ages 9-17 at Ironton High School July 8-12.

Fee is $215 and campers will receive 23 hours of skill instruction in all phases of the game from NIKE trainers and coaches, official NIKE camp T-shirt, NIKE cerwtificate and evaluation, NIKE prizes and drinks.

Jackson 5K Freedom Fest Run set July 4

JACKSON — The 17th annual Jackson County Freedom Fest 5K run and walk will be held on Thursday, July 4.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at Manpower Park on East Main Street in Jackson and run through the downtown streets.

Entry fee is $15 as all proceeds will go toward the sponsoring of community events by the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.

All participating runners will receive newly-designed Sports Festival t-shirts.

No pre-registration is required (although runners may pre-register at TriStateRacer.com) and registration may be made on the day of the race.

There will also be a one-mile fun walk starting simultaneously with the 5K run.

Those participating in the walk and wishing to purchase a t-shirt may do so for $10.

There is no cost for the walk, but there will be no awards for the walk.

St. Joseph athletic physicals July 9

St. Joseph High School and Junior High School will be conducted on Tuesday, July 9, at the Bellefonte Hospital Vitality Center.

Grades 7-9 will be at 9 a.m. adn grades 10-12 at 10 a.m. This is the only time free athletic physicals will be offered.

Any student planning to play sports during the 2013-14 school year must have an athletic physical.

Students should obtain a physical form and fill in the necessary advanced information. Remaining information will be done at the physicals.

Circlevile Dog Days 5K race set Aug. 3

The 12th annual Circleville Dog Days 5K road race, presented by Red Barn, will be held Sat., August 3 at 9 a.m. beginning and ending at Circleville High School.

The event boasts unique “Dog Days” suncatchers, given to the top three in each of 32 total age groups, plus awards to the top three overall male and female finishers. Numerous door prizes also will be awarded, water and splits will be available on the course, and refreshments will be available at the finish.
