The 9th Annual Tools 4 School Giveaway and Summerfest is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3, at Sixth and Center streets in Ironton. The giveaway begins at 10 a.m.

New backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies will be available for Lawrence County children in grades pre-school through 12. Children are to be present to select their own backpacks.

Inflatable games, free food, music and informational resources will be on site between Fifth and Sixth streets on Center Street during the annual event.

The Tools 4 School and Summerfest is coordinated and hosted by St. Paul Lutheran, First United Methodist, Christ Episcopal and First Presbyterian churches in downtown Ironton. In addition, All Saints Lutheran Church, from Worthington, participates in this annual mission event by collecting and assembling 1,000 back packs as well as volunteering for the day.

Donations are needed to meet this year’s goal of distributing more than new 2,100 backpacks filled with school supplies. In the past eight years, approximately 13,800 backpacks filled with grade-appropriate school supplies have been provided to children from our area. The largest percentage of these students are from Ironton, Rock Hill, Dawson-Bryant, Symmes Valley or South Point school districts.
