Law enforcement believe a rash of burglaries in the county were allegedly the actions of two Kentucky residents.

Starting in early June, at least 10 houses in the Ironton area and various others in the county were the targets of daytime burglaries.

“We had gotten three reports of televisions being stolen in a matter of days,” Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said. “Scioto County had some things hit and, at that point, we knew we had a problem and we assumed we had one crew.”

As the sheriff’s detectives investigated, they started getting descriptions of a vehicle and other information.

At one alleged burglary, a juvenile was in the home at the time.

“The child got a look at a suspect and identified through a line up and that helped get warrants,” Lawless said.

Burglary arrest warrants were issued for John M. Clark, 30, 126 Teddy Lane, Greenup, and Tawanna L. Talbert, 38, of 900 Heaberlin Road, Wurtland, Ky. The two were arrested on July 4 in Boyd County and placed in the Boyd County Detention Center for outstanding warrants.

The next day Talbert was extradited to the Lawrence County Jail and arraigned on Monday in Lawrence County Municipal Court on two counts of complicity to burglary, a second degree felony, and in Ironton Municipal Court on three counts of complicity to burglary.

Clark will face the same charges when he is extradited to Lawrence County. He faces additional charges in Boyd County and a burglary warrant in Greenup County.

The burglaries were the result of forced entry into the homes and items taken include televisions of a variety of sizes.

“They would grab one thing and back out the door they would go,” Lawless said. “They didn’t spend any time pilfering through the house. It was get in and get out.”

The sheriff estimates about 60 percent of the items taken from the homes have been recovered from area pawn shops.

“One of the key things that helped us in this is a lot of victims had their serial numbers recorded and provided those to us,” Lawless said.

Talbert remains in the Lawrence County Jail.
