Citizens could do more to cleanup city

My husband and I ride our bikes around town frequently.

One thing I always notice is the number of street storm sewer drains that are totally blocked by leaves, sticks, grass and litter. Many are on homeowner’s corners as well as many on schools and business corners. I think to myself, how much time and effort would it take to clean them out.

No wonder streets flood after heavy rains. I assure you, very little water can make its way down those clogged drains.

Another thing I have noticed is the number of businesses, (I won’t mention any names) who never sweep in front of their establishments for litter and cigarette butts. Their parking lots are full as well as the area right in front of the buildings.

How long would it take an employee to sweep, maybe once a week, to keep their businesses presentable?

We are so lucky to have Ironton In Bloom striving to make our town look nice and then we have business and property owners who really don’t care.

Take notice when you are out and about, you will see what I am talking about. I simply don’t understand.
