Paramount to have auditions for ‘The Outsiders’
ASHLAND, Ky. — Paramount Players is casting for “The Outsiders” and will have auditions at 6 p.m. Monday. The audition is open to ages 13 through adult.
A large number of male roles are available. Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script.
Production dates are Oct. 14-19.

American Red Cross looking for volunteers
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Today from 4 to 6 p.m., the American Red Cross will have a new volunteer orientation in the Huntington Office located at 1111 Veterans Memorial Boulevard.
The orientation will include informative sessions on all the services the organization offers, what is expected from volunteers and how they can be involved. Jason Chapman, emergency services volunteer, has been volunteering with the Red Cross for nearly 18 years.
“Assisting others that need help in times of disaster is the most rewarding parts of volunteering,” said Chapman.
During the orientation, potential volunteers will have a chance to discuss what they want to do and will be able to sign up to become a Red Cross volunteer.
The goal of the orientation is to engage community members in volunteerism and service. Participants can register to volunteer at the meeting for a variety of opportunities including:
·Local Disaster Responder: Become a member of a disaster action team and assist families who suffer from fires, floods and other disasters.
·Disaster Administrative Support: Assist with data entry and general office support.
·Service to Armed Forces: Support our military veterans and military connected families.
·Blood Services: Assist as a greeter, canteener or walker at a blood drive near you.
·Instructor: Become a health and safety instructor to teach people CPR, first aid, etc.
The Red Cross offers a variety of opportunities and we can find the fit that is right for your background, interest, skills and experience.
People of all ages are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.

OLBH to offer free men’s health expo Sept. 25
RUSSELL, Ky. — Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) will host a free health expo for men Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the OLBH Women’s Center 1000 Ashland Drive on the hospital campus in Russell.
The event features free health screenings including:
• prostate screenings
• glucose tests
• blood pressure checks
• bone density exams
• hemoglobin tests

PAC announces new comedy night
ASHLAND, Ky. — New Night of comedy turns the intimate on-stage seating with some really funny people.
Vic Clevenger will headline this show and brings his national tour to the Paramount stage.
Aaron Matthews will emcee the event, and Kyle Kimball and Marcus Oglesby and guest will be the pre-Vic features.
The show is Saturday Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15. There will be beverages.
Final draft of Marshall master plan set for review
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Marshall University is letting the community look at the final draft of its campus master plan.
An open house is set for Monday in the Memorial Student Center on the Huntington campus.
Marshall senior vice president of administration Karen Kirtley says it will be the final opportunity to view the plan before it is submitted to Marshall’s board of governors in late October.
The master plan covers both the Huntington and South Charleston campuses.
Workshop at RCBI to focus on tech, innovation
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The third in a series of workshops focusing on the needs of innovation and technology-based companies is scheduled Sept. 19 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing, 1050 Fourth Ave. in downtown Huntington.
The workshops are jointly sponsored by the West Virginia Small Business Development Center (WVSBDC) and RCBI.
Additional workshops are scheduled Oct. 17 in the Eastern Panhandle (location to be determined) and Nov. 21 at the RCBI Bridgeport Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center.
The workshops are part of the WVSBDC Innovation and Technology (In-Tech) program.
There is a $35-per-person fee per workshop. Registration for the Huntington workshop is required by Sept. 17.
