Trials have been set for two Ashland residents accused of making meth in a South Point apartment complex.

Ashley Kelley, 21, of 2239 Barbeque St., was given a final plea offer Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court. She is charged with second-degree complicity to illegal manufacture of drugs.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Mike Gleichauf offered Kelley four years in prison if she pleaded guilty to the charge. A second-degree felony carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison.

Kelley rejected the offer through her attorney Philip Heald.

Judge Charles Copper set a trial to begin Sept 19.

In a related case, Patrick Kelley, of the same address, rejected a final offer last week in court.

Kelley is charged with second-degree illegal manufacture of drugs.

He rejected an offer of five years in prison and a trial was set to begin on Oct. 11.

Both defendants had previously pleaded not guilty at their arraignments on Aug. 7.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, the Kelleys were arrested after deputies were called to the Lawrence Village Apartments in late July on complaints of a suspicious odor and smoke coming from a window in one of the apartments.

According to the report, the deputy noted a chemical odor in the apartment. Meth-making materials were allegedly found in the apartment, including allergy medicine blister packs, drain cleaner and a plastic bottle with a tube.

Also arrested and charged in connection with the case were Elvis Adkins, 25, of 518 Marion Pike Apt 5, Coal Grove, complicity to illegal manufacture of drugs; Cora Harmon, 22, of 214 Carl Perkins Drive, Ashland, Ky., complicity to illegal manufacture of drugs; and Jessica Robinson, 25, of 1097 County Road 1 Apt 30, South Point, complicity to illegal manufacture of drugs.

In other cases Wednesday:

• Joseph Barker, 33, of 2109 N. First St., Ironton, was arraigned on a bill of information of a count of fifth-degree receiving stolen property, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The man also denied probation violations.

Cooper set a pretrial for Sept. 18.

Because Barker was accused of violating probation, bond was not set and the man was taken to the county jail.

• Jason Newcomb, 31, of 65 Private Drive 954 County Road 52, Ironton, was arraigned on a bill of information of open burning or dumping, to which he pleaded guilty.

Cooper ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing Sept. 18.

• Mark Fritz, 28, of 95 Private Drive 1358, Ironton, was arraigned on a bill of information of three counts of fifth-degree receiving stolen property, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Cooper set bond at $20,000 cash or surety plus $20,000 own-recognizance. A pretrial was set for Sept. 18.

• Dennis Davis, 40, of 722 County Road 10A, Pedro, was arraigned on a bill of information of first-degree aggravated burglary, to which he pleaded not guilty.
