Friends and family of a teen who was killed in a car accident August 2012 are having a clothing giveaway Saturday in honor of the boy they say would have given the shirt off his back to someone in need.

The giveaway will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the Ironton High School Conley Center and in memory of 16-year-old Dustin Spry.

Spry was killed in a car accident on South Eighth Street in Ironton.

Alexandra Bazell, a 2013 IHS graduate, said she became best friends with Spry in the short time the two knew each other.

“He was the type pf person who would literally give the shirt off his back to help anybody,” Bazell said. “He was always there to help someone. His mother and I decided to do this clothing drive in honor of him because it was something he would do if given the opportunity.”

Bazell said she and others have been taking clothing donations for about a month and have gotten the word out via social media and flyers. The group has been able to collect clothing for all seasons and in a variety of sizes.

Bazell said anyone in need can come to the clothing drive Saturday. Donations will also still be accepted and anything that is not given away will be taken to the Ironton City Welfare Mission.
