Hospice of Huntington to host talk series
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Hospice of Huntington and area physicians will host the fourth annual physician talk series from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Oct. 17.
Topics will include diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure and Alzheimer’s diseases and dementia.
The physician talk series provides the community with the opportunity to learn about these conditions from Tri-State physicians. Talks are free and open to the public. Limited seating is available and light refreshments will be served.
• Sept. 26 – Diabetes: Dr. Daniel Macias
• Oct. 3 – (COPD) Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Dr. Peter Ottaviano
• Oct. 10 – (CHF) Congestive Heart Failure: Dr. Shawn Coffman
• Oct. 17 – Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease: Dr. Shirley Neitch

OLBH celebrates breast cancer awareness month
With October’s designation as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) will recognize the month with several awareness activities.
The OLBH Women’s Center will provide free clinical breast exams Oct. 1, 15 and 29. Additionally, free mammograms sponsored by Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation are available any day for uninsured or underinsured Kentucky women over the age of 40.
Call the OLBH Women’s Center at (606) 836-PINK (7465) for clinical breast exam and mammogram appointments.
The following are other events and activities planned for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
• Free manicures, pedicures and min-massages will be offered to women having mammograms at the Women’s Center. Call the Women’s Center for dates these services will be available.
• OLBH will participate in the American Cancer Society’s Oct. 19 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Ashland’s Central Park. For more information or to donate to or join a team visit www.makingstridesashland.org.
• OLBH’s Breast Cancer Support Group will meet Tuesday, Oct. 22 at noon.
• Tuesday, Oct. 22, the OLBH Women’s Center will host its Look Good…Feel Better meeting which helps women cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment by teaching them beauty tips that can help them enhance their looks and boost their self-images. The free class begins at 3 p.m. at Bellefonte Centre.
• Throughout the month of October, the OLBH Mobile Mammography Unit will be making stops throughout the region providing mammography services. For a schedule of dates and times, visit www.olbh.com.
