Pointers notch two soccer wins

SOUTH POINT — Two more games and two more wins for the South Point Pointers’ soccer team.

The Pointers beat Portsmouth Clay 4-1 on Saturday and came back with a tough 2-1 win over the Gallipolis Blue Devils on Tuesday.

The Pointers (9-1-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half in the win over Clay.

Trey Kearns scored on a free kick at the 8-minute mark to quickly put the Pointers ahead.

Jake Helton scored with an assist from Gage Stevens with 18:00 on the clock. Jordan Overstreet scored a goal with an assist from Marq Harris 21 minutes later.

The lead went to 4-0 on an unassisted goal by Alex Whitt at the 44:00 mark of the second half.

The Panthers finally scored at the 77:00 mark on a goal by Aaron Keyser withi an assist by Jordan Collier.

The Pointers had 17 shots on goal to just five for Clay. Goalkeeper Brady Rickard had four saves for South Point. Michael Gleason had eight save for Clay.

The defense took center stage Tuesday in the win over Gallipolis.

Whitt got the Pointers’ first goal at the 23:00 minute mark with an assist from Jake Helton.

The score remained 1-0 until the 49:00 mark of the second half when Whitt scored his second goal with an assist from Ryan Khounlavong.

The Blue Devils managed to score with 77:00 on the clock when Logan Carpenter got a goal with an assist from Jacob Click.

The Pointers had 10 shots on goal to a mere three shots by Gallipolis. Rickard had five saves. Gallipolis goalkeeper Alex Geer had six saves.

South Point will travel to Wheelersburg at 6 p.m. Thursday.
