PEDRO — The stat sheet belonged to the Rock Hill Redmen except for one item. And it proved to be a key item.

Rock Hill had more yardage and more first downs than Wellston, but the Redmen lost two fumbles — one that was returned for a touchdown — in an 18-15 loss to the Golden Rockets Friday.

Wellston took a 6-0 lead on a 2-yard run by Cameron Williams with 8:35 left in the first quarter.

But, after the kickoff, Rock Hill (0-5) fumbled the ball and Brandon Foughty returned it 43 yards for a touchdown and a 12-0 lead.

The Redmen answered with a 39-yard scoring run by quarterback Gabe Marzicola and Bryce Krum kicked the extra point to trail 12-7 with 37 seconds left in the first quarter.

Wellston (2-3) got a touchdown just before the half when Braydon Womeldorf hit Jake Waldron with a 12-yard touchdown pass and it was 18-7 just before the half.

Rock Hill recorded a safety with 4:29 left in the third quarter and it was 18-9.

The Redmen took the ensuing free kick and scored on an 11-yard run by Jonah Cox.

Rock Hill was stopped inside the Wellston 5 to end the game.

Rock Hill had 229 total yards to just 126 for Wellston.

Cox ran 22 times for 100 yards and Chance Blankenship had 60 yards on 17 carries as the Redmen ran for 187 as a team.
