Pet blessings abound on Saturday as Resurrection Hope United Methodist Church, will offer pet owners another chance to have their animals blessed.
“The church had mentioned it to me,” Terry Jones, the new pastor at the church, said. “And I have a couple of pets that I love.”
From 10 a.m. to noon, Jones will bless the animals as they are brought to him.
“We will bless each one with holy water and then give away postcards with a simple prayer on them. They will have their own pet blessings to take with them.”
Throughout the event there will be popcorn, drinks and a giveaway of gas cards.
Jones sees the pet blessing as a way to reach out to the community.
“You may be reaching people who don’t go to church and they see how much you care about the community and all God’s creatures, not just the humans who fill the seats,” Jones said. “We are all God’s creatures and if we bless people, we can bless the animals as well.”
The church is located at 617 Wyanoke St. There will be a second pet blessing at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the garden of Christ Episcopal Church.
