An Ironton man added to his already laundry list of criminal charges Wednesday when he allegedly kicked a window out of a sheriff’s cruiser.
According to Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless, an inmate at the jail, Roger Wallace, 51, of 409 Buckhorn St., allegedly broke the cruiser’s window while he was being transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton.
“He was cuffed and shackled but still managed to lay back in the seat and bring his feet up and kick the window,” Lawless said.
Lawless said a replacement window has been ordered.
The alleged incident happened just one day after the same man allegedly assaulted a deputy inside the jail.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, Wallace allegedly punched a deputy in the stomach and grabbed him, resulting in the two falling to the floor.
Wallace was arrested on Nov. 5 and charged with third and fourth-degree trafficking in drugs, as well as third-degree tampering with evidence and misdemeanor driving under suspension.
As a result of the latest incidents, charges of fifth-degree vandalism, fourth-degree assault and attempted escape were added to Wallace’s rap sheet.
“When he assaulted the officer he did try to maneuver out of the cell during the assault,” Lawless said.
Wallace had made initial appearances in Ironton Municipal Court. Attorney Gene Meadows was assigned to his case and bond was set at $25,000. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 21.
