Merilynn Cyrus

Merilynn Sue Cyrus, 68, wife of Michael Drury Cyrus, of Ladson, S.C., passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Summerville Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at Parks Funeral Home Chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Parks Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of S.C., 508 Hampton St., Suite 200, Columbia, SC 29201.

Merilynn was born on July 16, 1945, in Ironton, a daughter of Carl Henry Berger and Evelyn Hart Berger. She was a homemaker.

She was the loving wife of Michael Drury Cyrus of Ladson, S.C.; and the beloved mother of Michael Duane Cyrus, of Ladson, and Melynda Sue Orcutt (Michael) of San Jose, Calif. She also leaves behind one brother, Carl Walter Berger, of Ironton; four grandchildren, Adam Pipes, Lorynn Cyrus, Jonathan Orcutt and Pearson Orcutt; two foster children, Carl Ellis and Valerie White; and 24 additional foster children.

Helen Brewer

Helen McKenzie-Brewer, 84 of Flatwoods, Ky., died Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

Funeral services will be at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods on Thursday at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods. Visitation for family and friends will be on Thursday from 11 a.m. until service time.
