Volunteers deserve recognition

Many of us are still snacking on Thanksgiving leftovers, but ready or not, here comes the Christmas season.

In Lawrence County, the start of the holidays is marked with a series of community events, one of which was the Ironton Lions Club-sponsored Christmas parade in downtown Ironton on Monday.

Upcoming this week, the Chesapeake community will kickoff the holidays with its tree lighting ceremony at Triangle Park.

The Village of Coal Grove will follow suit Friday with its parade, sponsored by the Coal Grove Betterment Club, and official lighting of the displays at Paul Porter Park.

There will also be a variety of photo ops with Santa Claus for children to participate in the upcoming weeks.

The civic clubs and village and city workers who organize these events do a tremendous job of making sure their communities sparkle during this special time of year.

It is important to remember that many, if not all, who help with these events are volunteers and take time away from their own families to make sure you can make memories with yours.

If you participate in any of these holiday activities, take just a moment to say thanks to a volunteer who has given of their time to help Lawrence County ring in the Christmas season.
