Community’s creativity saluted

It is important that we not go full sail into the Christmas season without extending a huge thank you to all those creative and talented people who took over more than 40 pots downtown and, with great enthusiasm, decorated them for fall.
We were surprised and pleased, both by the number of residents and businesses that took part, and with the work and ingenuity represented in the delightful results. Unique scarecrows and exotic gourds appeared as if by magic, making Park Avenue and Third Street the talk of the town and even the Tri-State.
In addition, those who entered “rented” their pot for $25 each, giving our volunteer group a tidy little sum to add to our floral display fund after prizes were awarded.
Our judges had the difficult task of choosing the three winners who received a cash prize. They were Judy Moore, the Robert Slagel family and the Rock Hill Garden Club.
No one had a harder task than those judges.
And we are all winners, since the display heightened interest in coming to Ironton to see what is going on, to shop, and to eat.
This concerted effort is just the kind of project we at Ironton In Bloom love to be a part of. We look forward to seeing many more as city government and volunteer groups continue to work together to restore and build pride in our town.
