Defendants make pleas to drug charges

Some defendants denied drug charges while one Ironton man admitted his guilt Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

Joseph Wilson, 27, of 404 Township Road 301, was arraigned on a bill of information of fifth-degree possession of drugs, to which he pleaded guilty.

Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced the man to nine months in prison.

In a separate case, Gary Minard, 35, of 2804 S. Fifth St., Ironton, was arraigned on three third-degree counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Bowling continued bond from a lower court and added a $30,000 own-recognizance bond. A pretrial was set for Jan. 8.

An Ashland, Ky., man was also arraigned on drugs charges.

Vanderbilt Massey, 38, of 1312 Beverly Boulevard, pleaded not guilty to two fourth-degree and two fifth-degree counts of trafficking in crack cocaine.

Bowling set a $10,000 cash, surety or property bond with GPS monitoring and a $25,000 OR bond. A pretrial was set for Jan. 8.

In other cases:

Chaz McCoy, 23, of 223 Township Road 1186, Apt. 2, South Point, was arraigned on a second-degree count of felonious assault, to which he pleaded not guilty. Bowling set bond at $50,000 cash, surety or property with GPS monitoring and $50,000 OR. A pretrial was set for Jan. 15.

Jonathon Gragg, 33, of 1108 Fourth St., E. Apt. 1, South Point, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of theft. Bowling sentenced the man to 180 days in jail, suspended, a $500 fine, $257 in restitution and a drug assessment and counseling.

Kelly Byron, 35, of 1343 Hall St., Huntington, W.Va., admitted probation violations and was sentenced to a year in prison.

Devin Ross, 21, of 3123 S. Fourth St., Ironton, was arraigned on counts of receiving stolen property, driving under suspension and driving under the influence, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond at $7,500 OR and set a pretrial for Jan. 15.
