BIDWELL — It was a tale of two halves.

After a dismal first half, the South Point Lady Pointers stormed back in the second half to outscore River Valley 39-14 and beat the Lady Raiders 57-40 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“They shot the ball really well the first half and we couldn’t make anything. But we got things turned around in the second half,” said South Point coach Dave Adams.

“They only scored 14 points in the second half. We played really good defense in the second half and we were more patient and took better shots.”

Brett Justice and Abbey Winkler scored 15 points each to lead the Lady Pointers (10-1, 3-0). Brooklyn Badgett added 11 points.

River Valley (4-7 1-3) was led by Chelsea Copley with 16 points.

Copley hit a pair of 3-pointers as River Valley took a 15-6 lead in the first quarter.

Copley had six more points in the second quarter but Justice and Aundrea Bradburn combined for six points and South Point trailed 26-18 at the half.

The Lady Pointers went to work in the third quarter and held River Valley to six points. Brianna Bacon came off the bench to scored seven points as the Lady Pointers rallied to take a 34-32 lead.

Winkler scored 13 points in the fourth quarter including 8-of-13 from the line as South Point continued to pull away.

Justice was 4-of-4 at the line as the Lady Pointers converted 13-of-18 free throws.

“They started to foul us and we were able to make our free throws. That was big,” said Adams.

South Point hosts Fairland Monday in a showdown for first place in the OVC.
